It was Baron. He entered, his presence filling the room with an aura of authority and calm.
"I heard you're upset," he said, his voice steady.
I turned away, not wanting to look at him. "I just wanted to talk to my brother. Is that too much to ask?"
Baron walked over to the window, looking out at the darkening sky. "It's not about what you want, Talia. It's about what's safe."
I felt a surge of frustration. "Safe? What do you mean?"
He turned to face me, his expression serious. "We're in a cold war with Skyline. Communication with them is already limited enough. Allowing you to contact your brother could jeopardize our position."
