The first place they went was to get permission from her cousin. Amalia noticed Avalia had been neck-deep in work, barely able to look at her. But Amalia couldn’t blame her—Avalia herself had mostly been wrapped up in her mate. Or rather, the reverse; it was quite a funny story between the two of them, Amalia thought.

“We want to go,” Connor said, stepping in front of her, likely saving her from the embarrassment of explaining why they wanted to research the Gate. “It’s between both of us, but we’re curious about a few things, and we don’t have the answers here. We don’t want to wait around for Blood Moon—or whatever Lucio wants to call the place. It’s a coalition of paranormal idiots; I don’t care," he shrugged. "Bottom line is, I want to see, I want to know. So, are you going to let us leave or not?”
