I opened my mouth to argue, but the words caught in my throat. Deep down, I knew he was right, at least in part. The North was unpredictable. I had heard that over and over. In my limited education about Blackthorn, I knew the North was a place where the rules of nature were completely different. Temperatures always plunged below freezing, even during spring and summer. In summer, it was barely minus 20°. In winter or fall, it could drop to minus 50° to minus 100°. That alone was bad enough. Unfortunately for me, I hadn’t yet learned how to regulate my body temperature the way others could.
So, in many ways, Baron was right—but he didn’t need to know that.
