Frederick was exhausted. A strange fact that seemed to affect everything around him—his land, his body, even his feet simply did not find firm footing. Every other thing felt out of place, his mind became a mess, and what was most pressing was how terribly he missed his mate.
"Talia," Baron had said, his voice strained. "Talia is sleeping, and she refuses to wake up." Baron's eyes were red, and Frederick had quickly told the driver to stop. He’d even forgotten the driver’s name. He looked at Baron through the video screen.
"I've dropped her off with Ariel. I think that might be a good idea—the old hag told me to leave her there, and Valerie found it to be a good idea to follow her. Somehow, with Talia being away, my sons being in the capital, and with me up here, I feel stretched thin. If you can," Baron said, pausing for a breath, "send someone to the forest to keep an eye on her. I don't feel very trusting at the moment."
