The journey to the north had Baron’s mind constantly drifting back home. Home was where Talia was; home was distinctly away from him. His thoughts were divided. He had already sent word to his son that his sister would be staying with their mom.
“I wish I came with you,” Baylor had said. For as little as he could do, the boy was one who didn’t like to say much, and Baron couldn’t blame him. But he knew he had made his son feel nothing short of terrible.
“I’m sorry, buddy,” Baron had replied. “Will you forgive your father?”
The boy was quiet for a moment, and Baron had no choice but to listen to the silence.
“I do,” his son said finally. “But please,” Baylor added, “I would like it if you told me next time. It will make me feel better.”
