Footsteps behind him broke his thoughts. Bane approached silently, his serpentine eyes holding many unspoken words. Baron didn’t turn to acknowledge him, but Bane spoke all the same.
“We’ll reach the continent in three weeks. Luckily, we’ve shaved off a full two months from the journey, giving us several weeks’ advantage. Hopefully, we won’t have to cross harpy waters for too long. In about twenty minutes, we’ll be clear of them. We should arrive by dawn,” Bane said, his voice low but carrying a hint of tension. “The crew’s prepared. They’re ready to see this through, whatever comes.”
Baron nodded, his eyes never leaving the horizon. “Good. We’ll need every hand if we’re to break through Blood Moon’s defenses. This won’t be easy. Call the admiral.” His voice was steady, but there was an edge to it. Gabriel quickly moved to carry out the order, a slight awkwardness lingering as Lyra followed him.
