The icy wind howled around him, but Avario was used to the cold. His homeland had definitely not been like this. He missed, terribly, the humid weather, the mosquitoes, the oppressive heat that would pour down on his head. In fact, most of all, he missed the desert—a stark contrast to the cold. Unfortunately, he knew he couldn’t do anything but endure. One foot in front of the other, he told himself. At least, that’s what he had told himself for the last three days since he started the journey upwards. Yes, the journey led him higher and higher into the sky, climbing an elevated platform. Of course, he knew that the cold was a result of how high he was and how close he was to the poles. Here, it felt as though he was away from the North Pole, but coupled with the high altitude, everything was below freezing.
