It was weeks before Baron received any information—weeks of holding off impending attacks from the North. He even had to go there himself, to the border his capital city shared with the northern mountains, the high pass everyone called Rafar. The place itself, being so close to winter, was nothing but a barren wasteland of snow, rock, and ice, with hues ranging from bright white to dark gray, almost black. It was a place where miners had tried to extract iron but failed miserably because the stone was simply too hard.
His camp had been set up a week prior as he waited for the news to come from his beta, which eventually did, much to his anxiety. He hadn’t even seen his children, and that factor alone only added fuel to the fire.
“Alpha.” He turned around to find Wilber. The lad had a hopeful look on his face, his rosy cheeks illuminated by the artificial lighting of the tent. His bright eyes glowed softly with a bit of excitement.
