He approached a grizzled looking sailor who was in the process of unloading crates from a small fishing boat. The man looked up as Avario approached, wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his hand.
“Need something?” the sailor grunted, his voice rough from years of shouting at the sea from the looks of things and from the way the boy helping him seemed to flinch each time he handed a sailor something.
“I’m looking to buy a boat,” Avario said, cutting straight to the point. He wasn’t in the mood for small talk.
The sailor raised an eyebrow, eyeing Avario with suspicion. “You don’t look like the sailing type. Got any experience on the water?”
Avario hesitated for a moment. “Not much,” he admitted. “But I’m a fast learner.”
The sailor snorted, clearly unimpressed. “Sailing ain’t something you just pick up overnight, boy. Especially if you’re planning to cross the sea. That’s no small feat.”
