"Why do we have to go?" I asked for what felt like the hundredth time as Lyra started hurrying me to pack my things, which, in my opinion, was an exercise in futility.
"Because I'm not the one who said we should go. That was your bright idea three months ago when he was still slightly sane and could somehow remember your own problems," Lyra said, placing her hand on my lips as my eyes widened in surprise.
"Me? There's no way," I said. "Absolutely no way I would remember making such a promise. If I said I wanted to go to Karadun to have my baby, I'm sure I would remember it myself."
Lyra, however, seemed sure. Her eyes did not waver from mine as she held my gaze.
"Do you really think I did?" I found myself asking, completely breaking from my usual demeanor.
"Yes," she said. "You did. In fact, if I remember correctly, you're the one who said you didn't want to have your child here. Why do you forget these things?"
