"That’s a funny question," Celine said, her voice dripping with a strange mix of amusement and mockery. "Obviously," she added with a gleeful smile. "I’m your daughter. Aren’t you happy to see me?" Her tone was almost sing-song, as if she were discussing the weather rather than confronting her estranged mother.
When her mother remained silent, Celine waved her hand dismissively. "Well, that’s okay. It really doesn’t matter how you feel or how I feel. What matters now is that we’re together. You’re here with me, and we can finally talk about what’s been bothering us all these years, right?" She widened her eyes as she spoke, fixing her gaze on her mother, who now looked more irritated than excited.
"That’s enough for tonight," her mother said, folding her arms over her chest defensively. "You don’t seem too happy to see me," Celine declared, a hint of disappointment in her voice. "I don’t quite like that, you know. I’d rather you be happy. Isn’t that what family is all about?
