Avario was still confused. He felt as though he was being deceived by everyone, but he genuinely couldn’t help himself.
“Why have you been—?” The soft voice of the female, Talia, snapped him out of his thoughts.
“There was a village north, far from here, just outside the forest. I stayed there,” he said, glancing at her briefly. It was as though the details were very close to his heart, and he couldn’t understand why. “Is it true you can’t remember anything? Not even your name?” she asked.
He shook his head. “It was a man called Baron who told me my name. Everyone just called me ‘Cold’ and ‘Ice,’ and I’m sort of stuck with it,” he said.
Talia smiled. “Pretty,” he thought to himself, but he felt no attraction to her. It was simply the need to protect that drove him.
