Chapter 99: Dream or Fate?
Sitting in the filthy darkness of the cell, I couldn’t help but wonder how long they planned to leave us here. The walls seemed to close in with each passing second, suffocating me in the stench that could choke an entire village. It had been more than half an hour since Jeremy and I last spoke. After I had told him I got a maidservant’s job, he had lapsed into silence, and I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking. I’d expected more questions, more probing.
But silence was all I got.
