It took only moments to gather the bodies into a heap, hidden in the narrow privacy of the alley. Jacob worked methodically, a slight sigh escaping him as he gathered energy from the sky, directing it toward the lifeless corpses now lying in a slick puddle of oil. Instantly, there was a flash of fire, and the stench of burning flesh filled the air. He waited, the scent assaulting his senses, his patience fraying. With a practiced motion, he cloaked the scene from any wandering eyes, even those of the nearby police officers combing the area down the road. When the once-living men were reduced to little more than ashes, Jacob snuffed out the flames with a gesture, collecting the remains in a swirling mass of his power. He launched himself skyward, moving silently into the darkened sky, the weight of what he had done settling within him.
