As I dismissed the crowd from the execution ground, it took every ounce of self-control not to storm over and shake that insolent slave until she bled. How dare she defy me? My eyes followed the guards
dragging her and her so-called best friend away, my rage barely contained. Turning on my heel, I stalked back toward my palace, my footsteps heavy with anger. I knew my three closest allies followed in silence, questions hanging on their tongues, though none dared speak them yet. They must be wondering why I spared the audacious slave. Yet, I also knew Nick, the pack’s doctor, was relieved. He believed in her, thought she might hold some mysterious cure. I prayed his optimism wouldn't fade because if she crossed me again, not even her status as my mate would prevent me from taking her head.
