Chapter 54
ACHILLES.
“He’s really going,” Kiernan keeps muttering, pacing back and forth. “He’s really going to do it.”
We’re both in the weapons room, watching Duncan pick out the sort of weapons that he likes. The weapons that he would be bringing to his mission to the warehouse by sundown. He’s picking out the best ones, by the looks of it, but I still can’t help but feel nervous about the whole thing. I can’t blame Kiernan for mumbling like a madman and pacing the floor. I want to do those exact same things, but I can’t.
I just have to stand here and watch him get ready.
When he’s done strapping all sorts of weapons on his body, he turns to me and says, “I’m ready now. We need to go before the sun fully sets.”
I’m inclined to agree with him, even though a part of me wants to pull him back and convince him to drop this. As with the past mission, even though those guards came back alive, this still feels very much like sending a man to his own death.
