It doesn’t feel right to get kicked out of my mate’s room while she’s battling something, but there has to be a reason why I shouldn’t be there, right? There should be a good reason why I can’t be there. I’m still seething and confused, but Aristea is right. She has taken care of me since I was a baby. She must be trusted.

I make a move towards the door again, prepared to knock it down if I have to. However, I feel a hand closing on my arm. I turn around to find Carlos grabbing me, holding me back. He’s struggling with his crutches so I don’t snatch my arm from him, but I do face him immediately.
“You can’t stop me,” I tell him. “I need to know my mate is okay—”
“She will be, at the hands of Aristea.” Carlos breaks into a relieved smile. “She will make it through this, Alpha. She and your baby.”
