“I’m sorry, Desiree, Madam Gertrude has caught the sickness,” the Pack doctor said as she returned her medical kits into her bag. “We need to take her to the hospital.”
I refused to let go of her right hand. She was burning up and her closed eyes were squinting now and then, enough to tell me she was going through a discomfort I could barely imagine.
“I won’t lie to you, Desiree, her condition is serious and she might not last a day or two.”
I gasped while my hands trembled. “How is that possible?” I stuttered. “I know this sickness has no cure but it doesn’t kill this fast!”
She inhaled deeply. “Madam Gertrude must have been experiencing the symptoms but she probably chose to keep it a secret from us all.”
“Why?! Why would she do such a thing?!” My eyes twitched in disbelief as my gaze reverted to Gertrude, beads of sweat had started to form on her forehead and her breaths were starting to lose their rhythm.
