By the time we got back home, it was daybreak. I got dressed before I went to see the others.
Lisa, Ana, and Dominic sat in the control room, playing a game of chess.
My eyes fell on the backs of Lisa and Ana’s heads, then moved on to Dominic who immediately took notice of me.
He had that knowing look on his face. The one that said he already knew we had lost a member.
I couldn’t hide my feelings from showing on my expression, much less Azalea. She’d been crying non-stop since we got away.
Her eyes were bloodshot and swollen, and red splotches were on her cheeks. When I told her to go to her room so I could talk to the others, she refused and insisted on staying by my side.
My best guess was she was afraid to get captured again. Or, she didn’t want to be alone in her thoughts. I’d go with the latter, because that was exactly what I was thinking about myself.
