The creak of heavy gates swinging open sounded and Drakan released a deep-throated chuckle. “Home sweet home, at last.”
My eyes flicked toward him sitting beside me in the backseat with a sure-cocky confidence that I wouldn’t try and escape. He hadn’t tied me up or even put in effort to get me into the car. Not that he needed to.
He literally just plucked me up and placed me in the backseat in one, smooth motion with insane vampire speed.
I knew fighting would be pointless, so I didn’t try. I felt overly defeated anyway.
Maybe he had every reason to feel so confident. My shoulders sagged further as I peered out of the car glided up the long, narrow driveway toward a flashy, post-modern mansion.
Here I expected a shady, dark dungeon in the middle of nowhere. We were definitely in the middle of nowhere, but the mansion was bright and open, and even welcoming.
