“Azzy!” Anabelle sputtered a laugh as we heard the front door click shut. “Lisa just left. Quick, we can do it now.”
I peered up from the magazine I’d been reading, my brain lagging for a moment.
“Sugar? Salt?” she waved. “Switch?”
“I thought you already did?” my brows shot up in amusement.
“No, I haven’t had a chance to do it. But won’t it be better if we replace it directly. They’re all out.”
“Well, Dominic is around.”
“He’s probably sulking in his room. He won’t catch us,” she said. “You’ll hear him from a mile away with that wheelchair. It makes more noise than a rusted trolley.”
I couldn’t hide my smile as I placed down the magazine. “Fine. Let’s do it.”
I followed a giggling Ana into the kitchen, and I couldn’t help but channel my inner teen myself.
I never really had a chance to do these kinds of things. To be young and carefree, and relished in the moment as I took the bag of salt from Ana and poured it into the sugar container.
