A Monster
A sharp pain pierced the back of my skull as I dry-heaved with my face buried into the hardened carpet. My eyes were still closed, but behind my lids brightness swelled, then dissipated, almost as if someone kept moving back and forth past me, blocking the light from my view.
I was afraid to open them. I knew there were a few different kinds of monsters out to get me, and I knew without a doubt one of them found me. I just wasn’t ready to find out which of the bunch.
But that fell short when I discovered it was the monster I least expected. “Who the fuck you think you are, aye?”
A blow sunk into my ribs and I cried out in pain. He’s found me. Barry had found me. And out of all the monsters out there, he was the one I feared the most.
He was the one who explicitly explained how he planned to kill me once he found me. The same details I relayed to the police, who refused to do a damn thing about it. The primary reason I had fled over her, to begin with.
