Linda jolted awake from her sleep, her chest heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. With a shaky hand, she pressed against her racing heart, trying to calm the frantic rhythm. Blinking groggily, she realized that the sun was already streaming through the window, casting a soft glow over the room.
"Having another nightmare?" Charlotte's voice broke through the haze of Linda's thoughts, causing her to turn towards her friend who had entered her room.
"I don't know why I keep having the same dream about him every night," Linda confessed, her frustration evident in the furrow of her brow. She bit her lip, trying to suppress the flood of emotions threatening to overwhelm her.
"Could it be that you're still in love with him? That's why you keep having the same dream?" Charlotte ventured, her voice gentle yet probing.
Linda's brow furrowed in confusion. "I don't love him. Anything I had with him ended the moment I arrived in Chicago."
