While my head was ringing with the new information that had exploded on me like a grenade, the twins were still talking. I struggled to focus and hear the rest of their conversations.
“…he was mean to her and wouldn’t let her come home with us,” Luca was saying.
“Yeah, and he yelled at us,” Mateo added, shaking his head.
The twins shared a look. “We don’t like him,” they declared.
The man leaned in and stroked Matteo’s head. “He’s still your father, you know. Whatever your sentiments about him are, that won’t change.”
