Rosa’s forehead crinkled, her mouth twisting into a pained grimace. “She’s frowning at me, isn’t she?” she whispered to Juliet, fear seeping into her voice.
Juliet’s eyes flicked to Viola, the expression on her face clear as day—storm clouds gathering on a summer’s day. She turned back to Rosa, her mouth curling into a sly grin. “Oh yeah, she’s giving you the mother of all death stares.”
Rosa’s face was the personification of caution, turning to Viola with the speed of a sloth and the suspicion of a secret agent.
One eye squeezed shut, the other peering through a crack with the bravery of a sheep facing a lion, she let out a long, defeated moan, her voice suddenly as high-pitched and pitiful as a newborn puppy.
“I knew this was a trap,” she whimpered, her shoulders sagging in defeat. “A trap laid with chicken.”
