CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO – THE EX BOYFRIEND
The next morning, Kayla arrived at her desk to find an extravagant bouquet of fresh flowers waiting for her. Her heart skipped a beat as she examined the attached card:
"Kayla, it was wonderful to see a friendly face from the past. I'd love a chance to reconnect and catch up properly over coffee sometime. Let me know. -Nathan"
She set the card down swiftly, feeling a knot of unease twist in her stomach. Nathan was clearly not taking the hint that she wasn't interested in rekindling anything. The audacity of sending flowers to her workplace rubbed her the wrong way.
Kayla's gaze drifted guiltily towards Lance's office door. A part of her knew she should show him the note and flowers immediately. He would want - deserve - to know about Nathan's persisting attempts at contact. But she also didn't want to cause more tension or fighting between them. Things had just started feeling normal again after the awkward restaurant run-in.
