CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO – DETECTIVE WORK
For the next half hour, Rawlins grilled Kayla relentlessly about her relationship with Lance - how they met, how long they'd been together, any rocky patches or third parties that could have caused conflicts. Kayla answered everything openly and honestly.
"You'll have to forgive me for being so thorough," Rawlins said at last. "But we have to consider all possibilities here, even...unpleasant ones."
He leaned across the table, locking eyes with her. "Have you thought about whether this could be a inside job? Someone close to Storm looking to pull one over on him?"
Kayla stared back defiantly. "Like one of you mean? One of your own cops? Because I would never betray Lance like that."
Rawlins held up a calming hand. "Just exploring all avenues, Ms. Danvers. Now based on your financial records, it seems Storm has had some...disagreements with his family lately over control of the business. You mentioned a disagreement with his father and some supposed sister?"
