I stared at the items Elijah had laid out on the table, my emotions a chaotic storm. Dread twisted in my stomach, but a small flicker of hope burned in my chest—a dangerous, fragile thing that could be extinguished at any moment.
“Why do you have all this?” I asked, my voice shaky.
