Xina’s jaw nearly hit the ground as she saw Gary standing at the gate, waiting for her, while Greg and Ella stood awkwardly a short distance behind him. Were they waiting for her to come back?
“What is he doing here?” Xina muttered, her voice low as she turned to look at Gillian.
Gillian shrugged casually, though his eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? What’s the alpha doing here?” He studied Gary through the window. “If I had to guess, this has something to do with you. He’s waiting for you.”
Xina rolled her eyes. “Wow, brilliant deduction,” she shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm, which drew a light chuckle from Gillian.
“The easiest way to find out is to go down there and ask him,” Gillian teased, offering a grin.
Xina scoffed. “What a revelation. Thank you for that stellar advice.” But despite her retort, a small smile tugged at her lips. She missed these lighthearted exchanges with Gillian, the familiar rhythm of their banter.
