Chapter 8
That was it, she has had enough of this man s arrogance. If there was one thing Mitchell detests so much, it was pride.
"Thunderation!! Damnation!!" She swore with a very fierce look.
"Who the hell are you and where the hell did you come from?" She demanded and he laughed at her bluntness, but with no humor. Mitchell found nothing funny about what she had said and that further irritated her.
"Apologize now because I won t make myself repeat it." She said, not hiding her irritation towards him
Something in her voice or look must have made him swallow whatever he was going to say next, rather he turned to the receptionists and officers and apologized to them individually as she had instructed.
By now a few more had joined them in the lobby but each just kept quiet and watched.
Satisfied with the apology, Mitchell smiled, and with a pat on his shoulder, she said.
"Doesn t make you less of a man, does it?"
He remained silent, so she continued, "Next time you don t have to act so fiercely, especially to people you are stronger than. If you must show or display power, then find a match just like you.
And she turned to pick her bag and boxes.
"How about you take me on then?" She heard him say
She turned back and answered, "I would but first I have something important to do and secondly I don t battle with people below me, it will certainly be an abuse of power."
And with that beautiful smile, she turned to leave without a backward glance at him.
CHAPTER TWO
"Surprise!!!" Mitchell said with a big smile on her face as she walked into Daniel s office
Taken aback.
"Mitch!!!" Daniel exclaimed with a surprised look on his face before he continued. "What are you doing here?"
"Why? Am I not welcome?"
With a smile on his face, Daniel stood up to hug her before finally placing a kiss on her forehead.
"You know you are, just surprised," He answered.
"It s your birthday and I felt I should deliver this myself," Mitchell said, dropping the boxes of cake on his desk while taking her seat and relaxing into it like a frequent visitor.
"Nobody called me. The security man at the gate post, the receptionist, and my secretary. How did you do that?" He asked, smiling.
"I told them it s a surprise but that was after I gave them my most beautiful smile. You know how well that works right?" She said sheepishly
Daniel laughed, when Mitchell smiles, she can get anyone to do her biddings. Her smile was one of the most beautiful and quite angelic.
"Wow. I m honored. You took the day off to deliver this," he said pointing at the boxes of cake. I found it quite unbelievable, Mitch. It s hard to get you away from work on a weekend and here you are on a Tuesday, you surprised me.
Mitchell smiled leisurely and shrugged her shoulders. She looked into her bag and brought out the beautifully wrapped gift she d gotten from her last business trip to Italy.
"Here, happy birthday, bestie," she said as she extended the beautifully wrapped gift to him.
"Now, I m deeply touched," Daniel admitted.
He opened the gift and allowed a low sound of excitement to leave his mouth.
"Mitch!!? These are beautiful" he said sounding genuinely pleased
"Glad you like them," she said smiling and he smiled back in appreciation.
Mitchell looked at him with an appreciative smile on her face as he busied himself with opening the boxes of cake, Daniel was the only one that called her Mitch and she likes it that way. Again, she wondered where she could have been if Daniel hadn t happened into her life years ago. She owes this man a lot. She wishes she could get out more often to have fun with him but she was always busy. Though they talked at least thrice in a week, there was hardly time for her to hang out with him, but looking at how genuinely please he was now at seeing her, Mitchell made a mental note to always get out more often with him, even if it has to be once in a month, they could start from there.
"Why are there two boxes of cake?" Daniel asked breaking into her thought
"One for you and the other for your colleagues". She answered.
"How thoughtful," he said, grinning at her. He picked up his telephone and called his secretary.
"Andrea, can you please come over?" He said into the receiver
"Yes sir. Right away sir."
As he was replacing the receiver, the secretary knocked on his door.
"Come in"
Andrea walked in and curtsied in greeting both of them.
