Chapter 6
Most people were always stunned just like the security man had been whenever they came to realize she was CEO of Zubal Food Company.
Zezame Incorp. was a big company dealing in Tele-communication. Mitchell wondered who was lucky to have found each other, Daniel or the company. Both complement each other so well. And he, just like Mitchell had risen from being a Microsoft developer to the head tech position in matters of years.
Carefully, she pulled up behind a black Mercedes Benz car narrowly avoiding scratching it. Releasing her seat belt, she quickly retouched her light makeup and applied some lipstick to her lips. She knew Daniel would be impressed that she had even had the time to make herself up. Light or not. She doesn t fancy it and only does it when necessary. Today was one of such occasions. Checking herself in the side view mirror, she beamed satisfactorily at her appearance before she stepped out gracefully, looking elegant and bossy. With her bag slung over her shoulder and boxes of cake in her hands, Mitchell marched towards the elevator.
The reception lobby of Zezame Company was large, beautiful, and lavishly decorated. Mitchell walked graciously towards the receptionist desk amidst the interested and appreciative stares of the occupants of the big room after greeting the two officers she met stationed outside the elevator and signing in.
"Welcome ma," the receptionist smiled and continued in her sweet professional voice.
"Who are you here to see?"
Mitchell smiled back at her. The receptionist was every bit smart, polite, and beautiful.
"Engineer Daniel Spencer" Mitchell answered after returning her greeting.
"OH! please have a seat while I ring him up," she said
"Please, Mitchell quickly said, offering her one of her most beautiful smiles. It s a surprise visit".
"For his birthday?" she asked
"Yes, for his birthday" Mitchell replied before she showed her identity card just to tell her it s safe.
The receptionist smiled knowingly and gave her directions to Daniel s office. Thankful, Mitchell walked away in the direction she gave her but not before she d seen the look the receptionist exchanged with her partner who had been sitting patiently still during their conversation with her eyes glued to the computer in front of her pretending to be absorbed in her work, but Mitchell saw the furtive glances she stole at her.
She must think she was Daniel s girlfriend because she heard her say to her partner what a lucky man Mr. Spenser was, and Mitchell was just going to let her think that.
Behind her Mitchell continued to hear the merry whispering of the receptionists, she turned to take a look at them. By now the two officers stationed outside the elevator were now at the receptionist s desk, and her partner who had been busy earlier was now an active participant in the conversation. Mitchell smiled at their giggles, excitement, and interest in her being Daniel s girlfriend. There was only one person who didn t share in all the excitement. The pretty lady who had been sitting quietly on one of the big sofas with her nose dipped in the magazine she was reading when she had walked in. But her interest had been raised the moment she said she was there to see Daniel. Mitchell saw the look on her face, especially when the receptionist said to her partner that she was Daniel s girlfriend.
Her face had registered distaste and anger.
And now, Mitchell watched as she angrily folded the magazine and walked away with a long hiss at the receptionist and her peers.
"You better get back to work" She fired at them
"Someone is interested in our engineer," Mitchell smiled.
As she turned and took a bend and started to walk towards the long hallway that leads to Daniel s office which was just down the hallway, their whispers turned to merry chatter. Mitchell grinned, she was out of earshot, they probably thought. She hadn t taken more than two steps towards Daniel s office when the room went stonily quiet. Almost like a ghost had sneaked into the room, she retraced her steps to see what had happened, stopping at a distance where she cannot be easily noticed or seen.
At the reception lobby stood the most handsome tall dark, and sinfully ruggedly attractive man she had ever seen. His eyes just like his hair were dark but shrewd. He looks like a fine piece of art, finely cut and carved from the most expensive wood. The suit he wore fitted so smartly like it was sewn specifically for him, his stylist definitely without a doubt was a professional. He looks wealthy with an authoritative aura, one that has brought about the deadly silence that now befell the room.
He was the ghost.
Out of curiosity, Mitchell stood back to see what was going to happen. He looks formidable and most likely angered by the way his eyes darkened.
