Chapter 10 A FRESH START

VEGA Vega concluded that leaving home was the best option for her. She packed up a few of her belongings and left the pack in the middle of the night. FIVE YEARS LATER The alarm on the table clock buzzed at 6 a.m., and a sleepy Vega lazily stretched forth her hands to put it off so she could get a good sleep. It worked the first time, since she slept for another hour. The alarm buzzed again, and this time, in trying to put it off, she fell with a thud, carrying the bed cover with her. "Ouch!..." Vega immediately stood up from the floor, rubbing her back, which hit the cold hard floor. Suddenly, she heard a knock on her room door. "Vega, are you okay?" Came Sandy's voice. "May I come in?" "Yes, you can." Vega muffled, still feeling the impact from the fall. She only just realised it was morning when she picked up the alarm clock. Just as she stared at the clock in shock, Sandy came in. "Oh my... you are late again..." Sandy said, putting her hands to her waist. Vega scrambled up from the floor as quickly as possible. "I'm toast!" She said running helter-skelter to the bathroom. "Yes, you are really toast!" Sandy said, chuckling very hard. "Too bad you are the assistant of Gwen." Sandy rolled her eyes. "I can't stand that woman for a minute." Vega squeezed her eyes shut, thinking about the scolding she would get by the time she arrived at the studio. Gwen Thomas is a model for the Glitters clothing and shoe line, and it so happened that Vega was chosen as her assistant. In fact, the very day she arrived at the studio where she was assigned, it was Gwen who personally handpicked her to be her own personal assistant. Since Vega was new, she had no idea, and she did not understand why the other assistant stared at her in horror. But after working for Gwen for a year and a half, she can boldly say she's gotten herself into the worst shit ever in life. After she was done getting ready, she scurried out of the house to meet with Sandy, who was outside hoping for her to show up. "Thank you for your patience, it won't happen again." Sandy rolled her eyes at her statement. "I know it will happen again, so just give it a rest." This made Vega feel bad, and she hit her head with her hand. "Hey, why are you hitting yourself? It's not that bad." Vega took a short glance at her roommate and friend. She wondered how her life would have been if she had never met Sandy. The day she decided to leave the pack for a new life, she knew she had nowhere to live but left anyway. She had made up her mind to leave and knowing how risky it was outside, she decided to put her fate in the hands of the moon goddess. It was like she took a gamble on her life. She thought that if her life was meant to end in tragedy, then it should as well end in an unknown destination rather than in the pack house, when she knew she brought nothing but sadness to the only family she's got. Going to the outside world wasn't as simple as she had anticipated; she encountered so many rogues along the way and until now, she couldn't count how many had died at her hands. She killed as many as came her way, trying to hurt her. It was during one of her fights with the rogues that she came into contact with the rogue Alpha Rafael. He helped her by commanding the deaths of all the rogues who tried to hurt her. Seeing the rogue Alpha for the first time surprised her because she had always thought he was the same age as her father, but seeing this young handsome rogue Alpha got her confused. She found out later that he was the son of the former rogue Alpha she knew, and he had taken his father's place as rogue Alpha since his father's retirement. Rogue Alpha Rafael was very nice to her, and he treated her like family. Judging from his looks, she could tell that he was just a few years older than she was. Staying in their community wasn't easy because every other rogue hated her because she was different from them. It was extremely dangerous for a pack wolf to be among the rogue wolves. Due to the scent she had as a pack wolf, the other rogues did not like her, but for their Alpha, they tried to tolerate her. Vega decided to seek help from the Alpha by pleading with him to let her seek a job outside since she had completed her education, but he refused to let her work outside his Company. It so happened that Alpha Rafael had a modelling company where he had so many employees working for him. He offered her a job in his company as his assistant, but Vega refused since the rogues were still not in favour of her even after she had lived with them for more than five years. After her pleading with Rafael, he decided to let her work at any place of her choice. She decided to go for the lowest position in order not to get on the bad side of the rogues, this was because everyone employed in the company was a rogue. Even though she no longer had the scent of a pack wolf after all these years, it still did not go well for her since some rogues still hated her, maybe due to the fact that their families were probably exterminated by their original packs. "Here we are." Came Sandy's voice, which startled Vega out of her thoughts. "What are you thinking about Vega? You zoomed in on thoughts all along the way. Vega smiled at her friend. "I'm okay, just thinking about the scolding that awaits me." Vega said, clearly not wanting to tell Sandy what she really was thinking about. "I wish you had a boss like mine; you wouldn't have to suffer this much." Sandy said chuckling at Vega. "Show off." She said, rolling her eyes at Sandy. They both came down from the car and headed into the gigantic building which was owned by Rafael Roger. Vega was just a step into the studio when she heard the angry voice of Gwen. "What kind of lazy brat do I have for an assistant." Vega froze, seeing how angry Gwen was. It was the same every day. She wished she could stop thinking about her past. The reason she woke up late every morning was because she kept dreaming of the night when her sister took her mate. It has become a trauma for her. One time Sandy asked her the reason she always woke up in her sleep crying, but she refused to tell Sandy. She never told anyone about her hidden pain because she believed it was her personal problem to bear. Vega summoned courage and went inside the studio. The moment Gwen saw her, she stood up from the chair in which she sat and walked towards her. "Why are you late, again?" Vega kept her head down, so Gwen wouldn't see the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. "I'm sorry Miss Gwen it won't..." "Happen again?" Gwen shot in. "You keep saying these lines that I'm so tired of hearing them." "Just fire her already if you are tired." Said Diane, the boss to Sandy. Gwen shot her a death glare. "I did not ask for your opinion." She shot at Diane. "Oh yeah? But you keep disturbing the peace of the studio." Gwen gasped in horror at what Diane said. There they go again; they never cease to quibble whenever they are both at the studio. Gwen and Diane had been the oldest ambassadors for Glitters, and they are the worst enemies ever known. From the information gathered, they were known to be best friends before they turned rivals for love, all for Rafael Roger. It so happened that Gwen liked him first and told her friend Diane about it, but, then, Gwen never knew Diane was also crushing on him. When they both realised they were attracted to the same man, they instantly became the worst enemies. Though on camera, they pretended to be good friends because Rafael made it known to them that he would not tolerate any form of enmity between the two of them, even though he knew their problems started because of him. In this matter, Rafael could not be blamed since he never acknowledged anyone as his girlfriend. The world of women is really nasty. Whenever Vega saw these two, she was reminded of her sister Victoria. She wondered how they were doing and if they had gotten some kids or not. She sometimes thought about her father too; she had yet to let Alpha Rafael know she was the Alpha's daughter because the only thing she told him was that she was from white snow pack. By the time Vega was done for the day, she quickly went to the eatery to get something to eat. Reaching there, she ordered her favourite fried chicken and chips. She sat in a quiet area outside the eatery where she ate her chicken in peace. She stared at the TV, watching the different runway models showcase their new brands of clothes. Vega smiled at the new dresses she saw. She couldn't help but fantasise about herself; she imagined she was one of those models in fine dresses, catwalking to the stage in her attire. Just then, they called on the CEO of the company to whom the models and dresses belonged. "Let's welcome Mr. Reynold Flames, the CEO of White Star magazine modelling company, to give us a speech." Vega had heard about White Star Modelling; it was the most Famous and widely known company ever. She had heard a few times when Gwen and Diane talked about them. She had been very curious to know how this company managed to become so famous. From the dresses she had seen, they sure deserved to be the world's best-known. Just then, the CEO emerged from the crowd, and Vega immediately choked on her coffee upon seeing who he was. Holy shit!, immediately the pains came crushing on her again. Vega held her chest so tightly as the pain in her chest became very severe. Who could have thought that she would ever see him again? Not just that, he was the CEO of the most popular company that was ever known. Vega immediately stood up and bolted out of the eatery as she held her chest so tightly. On reaching the building of her company, she saw Sarah, Alpha Rafael's secretary, walking towards her quickly. "Where have you been? Alpha Rafael wants to see you." Sarah seemed to have noticed Vega's paleness. "Are you okay? You look so pale, Vega." Vega managed to give Sarah a smile even though her heart was crushing into pieces. "I'm fine." Sarah went back to the company, but not without taking one last look at Vega before leaving. After 30 minutes, when her pain seemed to have subsided, she inhaled a deep breath before going over to his office. Reaching Rafael's office, she saw him busy with certain files at hand. She knocked on the office door even though it was open. "Don't stand on ceremony, Vega, just come in." Vega walked in slowly and took a seat across from him. "What are you searching for? I might be of help." Rafael took a quick glance at her and smiled. "No worries, found it!" He said bringing out a file from the uppermost part of the document shelf. He sat down with the file on top of his desk and stared at Vega for a while. "How have you been Vega?" He asked, looking at her, his expression showed great concern for her. "I'm perfectly okay." She said, smiling at him. If only she were, that would have been really nice, she said to herself. "So why did you call for me, Alpha Rafael?" "I've told you to just call me Rafael Vega."
