Feeling bad for the enemy
Ryke hung up the phone with a heavy sigh. The search for Megan had hit yet another dead end. He had hoped that Mr. Goldwin's investigation would have turned up something more concrete. But as it stood, they were no closer to finding out who was behind the attacks on Scarlett.
He turned to Scarlett, who was sitting on the couch, staring out the window. "I'm sorry," he said, taking a seat next to her. "We still don't have any solid leads on Megan."
Scarlett turned to him, a small smile on her face. "It's okay, Ryke. I know you're doing everything you can to keep me safe."
Ryke leaned in and kissed her forehead. "I won't rest until I find out who's behind all of this," he said. "I promise."
Scarlett nodded, and Ryke could see the worry etched on her face. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"I'm just...nervous, I guess," she admitted. "About working with Alex."
