Chapter 40 : The Other Woman
*Mae*
Mae looked around her new little place with Henry. She loved it even more now that it was filled with pieces of them. She touched her fingers lightly to the tiny crystal lamp Henry had gotten her for her vanity. The sunlight shone different colors through the room as it reflected off the dangling glass.
Mae brushed her hair out before tying it back away from her face. She tried to stay hopeful that her grandmother would be more open to talking and sharing than her father had been.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Henry offered again, stepping out of the closet fully dressed now. Mae smiled softly at him.
"It'll be a quick and easy trip. I'll be back tonight. Besides, if she's going to tell me anything, it's much more likely she'll do it if I'm alone. I don't want her to feel bombarded."
"Oh, the two of us are the calvary, are we? Overwhelming!" Henry teased, moving closer and playing with her tied-up hair.
