Celeste stepped out of the club into the cool night air, the weight of everything that had happened pressing heavily on her chest.
Arlo was waiting for her by the entrance, hands in his pockets.
With Silas dead and Vivian’s betrayal laid bare, her fate was sealed. Felix and Harvey wouldn’t let her walk away from this. But Celeste no longer cared. The tasks she’d set for herself were done. There was nothing left to hold her here.
“All set?” Arlo asked, his voice soft but eager for an answer. “I’ve booked the flights. Where is your passport?”
“At home,” Celeste replied, her tone distant, her mind elsewhere.
Arlo fell silent as he drove her to the mansion.
The night outside seemed darker than usual, and the once well-maintained lawn now lay in ruins, trampled into muddy patches.
In the corners of the yard, where no one had yet bothered to clean, faint streaks of dried blood still marked the ground.
The fight hadn’t ended when she left. It had carried on long after she was gone.
