Chapter 20 Daddy Maybe

Everything that happened was witnessed by Hansel as he was just out for a quick shopping. “Mummy, you’ve anything to say to me?” Hansel spoke. Stunned, Lyla followed up, “What do you mean?” “The person who drove you back. Seems like a wealthy person!” Lyla turned to look at him and started to walk home, “He’s my employer. Of course, he’s rich.” “He’s your boss?!” Hansel immediately chased after his mother. “Mummy! Y-Y-Y-Y-You… Did you…” “No! Nothing happened!” Lyla exclaimed immediately. She knew Hansel was going wild with his imagination. “Nothing? Which kind of boss would drive his employee home when she’s got no means of transport?!” Hansel cried out in disbelief. “Of course there is. You just saw him do that!” Lyla answered. Hansel stared right into her with a face filled with disbelief. “Whatever you’re thinking, forget about them! Nothing happened between me and my boss!” said Lyla before she sped forward. Hansel followed from behind, staring at her silhouette as he spat, “That’s an unnecessary statement!” The more she tried to explain, the more suspicious Hansel got. … Lyla herself was not one with many words. But the similarity between Hansel and Mark was too eerily close. Even then, she could not explain such a coincidence. Thus, she chose not to think and talk about it. When she got back home, she smelled a wonderful scent permeating throughout the house. Lyle Lowe had an apron wrapped around him as he was busy in the kitchen. “Lyle, I’m home,” Lyla announced her return and sat on the sofa. “I’m almost done here. I’ve stew coming up real soon!” Lyle poked his head out from the kitchen and exclaimed to Lyla. “Okay!” Lyla replied. At that moment, she suddenly felt comfortable and good about the recent days. She was with her entire family and it felt truly fulfilling. Just as she was in her sea of thought, Gretel came in like a squall, suddenly. “Good evening, mummy!” Lyla said nothing. She had only pointed at her legs and Gretel immediately nodded in acknowledgement. The little girl then knelt in front of her mother and massaged her legs. “How is it, mummy?” Gretel asked earnestly. “So good…” Lyla said. She was thoroughly enjoying it. “Are you very tired, mummy?” “I am!” Lyla said slowly “Hansel told me that someone drove you home. Who was it?” Little Gretel asked with a smile. The moment she dropped the question, Lyla immediately flung open her eyes. This little brat was just here to dig more information from her! “What about it?” “Nothing. I was just worried for mummy!” “Worried for me?” “Mhm! Mhm!” the little girl nodded her head continuously. Lyla pressed her finger onto Gretel’s forehead. “I know you guys are scheming about something! I’m warning you now! Stop it or I’ll make sure you’ll be sorry!” “Mummy!” Gretel grunted. Feeling bad, she gently caressed her hurting forehead. At that moment, Lyle Lowe came out from the kitchen and said, “Even if they were planning something, it must be something good.” Hearing the voice of her brother, she turned to him and called him out, “Lyle!” “Hey, I’m siding with the kids for this.” Lyla knew just what he was going to say to him. She could fight with her own kids but she could never go against her own brother. After all, he was the only person she could consider as a senior. “Lyla, you’re not young anymore. It is time for you to start thinking about yourself. Do you really want to live alone for the rest of your life?” She had heard that too many times and she had gotten used to that sort of speech. She smiled, stood up, and said, “Who says I’m alone? I have you lots! That said, these two little critters have me at my limit!” “But…” “Dinner smells amazing! I’m famished and I’m getting into my room to change. I’ll be back soon!” said Lyla before she scooted off. Lyle shook his head helplessly. It always ended that way whenever he engaged that topic. That being said, his little sister was someone exceptional. He need not worry for her not being able to settle down.
