Chapter 11 One Looks Like Mummy, One Looks Like Daddy

By the time Lyla’s work got in line with others, her accommodation was arranged, everything in Cobalt City was dealt with, it was already the weekend. She suddenly thought of her two darlings. She said that she would be picking them up. She started to wonder how they were doing. She wanted so bad to meet them again that she wished she could just sprout a pair of wings on her back and fly over. As a result, she would take the weekend to pick up her kids. Since she had not yet scheduled her work yet, she would go return back to Cobalt City a little later in the evening. Alone, she took the plane. Since she had been working rather hard for the past two days, she was tired. When she boarded the plane, she immediately put on her eye mask and went to sleep. Unbeknownst to her, the two were not as obedient as she thought. Both of them were actually rather excited. To be fair, Hansel was calm and composed while Gretel was the one who went a little overboard. It took them just a little while to get familiar with the rest of the passengers. Every other passenger was mesmerized by those two. They were cute little childrens; the elder brother was cool while the little sister was pretty and cute. The pair of kids would occasionally play with them to make them laugh. Lyla felt gratified. It could not be helped. They would be the most beautiful and eye-catching existences regardless of where they were. “Little girl, who do you look like? How are you so cute?” one of the passengers asked. “I look like my mummy! Big brother looks like… daddy? I suppose?” Gretel took the opportunity to answer promptly. “What do you mean by, suppose?” Many did not understand. “Well, that’s because we have never seen daddy! We don’t know what he looks like!” Gretel answered in a lower volume. “Well, where is your daddy?” those passengers asked, continued to pry for answers. “He’s always busy! He is working very hard to earn a living for us!” Hansel stepped in to answer in her stead. Lyla actually froze in place. She could not bring herself to speak. ‘Those brazen kids sure know how to talk themselves up! Even I don’t know who your father is, or what he does for a living!’ That was the one thing that had always bothered Lyla Lowe. She recalled something happening two years ago when the two siblings returned home. One was crying and the other was injured. The reason behind it was a fight with the neighbour's kids. The neighbour’s kids were throwing jabs at then, calling them names like bastard children with no father. When Gretel returned home, she immediately told her brother. As a result, the brother went straight for the assault and got into a fight. That being said, the other kids would never dare to be rude to them ever again. After recalling that incident, Lyla suddenly felt a guilty pang in her heart. She could never introduce their father properly. Not long after, the two darlings got tired playing and finally calmed down. When they disembarked the place, Lyla walked in the front with her luggage while the eye-catching two children followed suit. They took a cab and headed to the small apartment they had rented.
