Chapter 3: Who is this woman?

Qi Xiaorou was dumbfounded. Her eyes met Jian Jianan’s ice-cold eyes. “Sister, what do you mean?” “Nothing, I was just joking! Why are you so nervous!” Qi Xiaorou was confused by Jian Jianan’s sudden coldness. ‘Damn it! Does she know about her and Yihan?’ ‘No… that was impossible. They were doing a brilliant job hiding their secret. No one could possibly know. Moreover, Jian Jianan had slit her wrist just for Yihan and has not stepped out of the room since. Have you also noticed that Xiao Yihan has never visited me once ever since my incident? So tell me, why should I give up on a fabulously wealthy family for a poor doctor?” “It is not that Xiao Yihan doesn’t want to visit you. He was recently transferred to a neighboring province for a medical consultation!” Jian Jianan glared at her coldly. “Oh? Is that right? You seem to know more about his whereabouts than I do!” She was stunned. Qi Xiaorou felt like she was being tricked. Jian Jianan had made a dramatic change! “Sister, I just hoped that you wouldn’t give up on him. I’ve seen you two work so hard and so long to be together!” “That’s enough! Who I want to marry is my business. You can leave.” Qi Xiaorou’s mouth tried to form words, wanting to say something. Instead, she just nodded her head. “Okay, please rest well. I will come by to check on you later!” Once Qi Xiaorou closed the door, the smile on Jian Jianan’s face disappeared. Qi Xiaorou was still, as usual, a hypocrite! “Little Bei, do you like Qi Xiaorou?” “I do! Sister Xiaorou is so gentle!” Jian Jianan frowned. “However, I like sister Nannan the most!” Jian Huaibei pecked Jian Jianan on her check. “You’re lucky you’re smart enough to know that!” A coldness glazed Jian Jianan’s eyes when she remembered her past life. After a week of rest at home, Jian Jianan asked Jian Ansheng for Gu Mocheng’s contact details, remembering that she still had to deal with the relationship between the Jian and Gu families. However, the refusal to pick up and abrupt silences on the other line was more than frustrating. The messages she sent to him were undelivered. There was no news and no reply. Jian Jianan knew Gu Mocheng was determined to call off the engagement, and so she decided to meet up with Gu Mocheng to talk things over. However, at that time, Gu Mocheng was in the army. Jian Jianan had never met Gu Mocheng before, in both her lives. However, from the one time she had seen him in a photograph, Jian Jianan could recognize Gu Mocheng. In that photo, Gu Mocheng wore a camouflage uniform. He had buzz-cut hair and stood with an upright posture and a stern look on his face. He resembled a plank of wood. In her previous life, Jian Jianan wanted to break off the engagement as soon as she saw the photo. It was not that Gu Mocheng’s was average-looking. She had never wanted to marry a soldier. She felt that being an army wife was full of pity; they spent their time alone in constant fear of becoming a widow. On top of that, the man she loved was Xiao Yihan. She loved him passionately and thought a gentleman like Xiao Yihan was a more suitable husband. Because of that, she went to extreme lengths to end the engagement with Gu’s family. Thinking of it now, she realized how much of a fool she had been back then. Once she reached the entrance to the military camp, she got out of the car and asked her driver to leave. “Young Lady, how will you be going back?” “Don’t worry, someone will send me back home!” The driver was worried about Jian Jianan, but seeing she had already made up her mind, he nodded and left. Jian Jianan glanced at the magnificent ‘Eight-One’ signboard. She took out a coral-colored lipstick from her handbag and applied it to her perfect lips. She gave a slight smile to a mirror, regarding her reflection with satisfaction. She had always been confident in her appearance. Today, she had to conquer Gu Mocheng! When she arrived at the military camp, Jian Jianan was stopped by a security guard. “Ma’am, this area is prohibited. Please leave immediately!” Jian Jianan had put on some makeup and wore a dark-red dress, all efforts she had taken for her meeting with Gu Mocheng! A breeze blew through her hair and her dress billowed in the wind, making her look magnificent. She looked at the guard with a glamorous smile. “Hi, I am here to meet my fiancé, could you tell him to come out, just for a little while?” The guard blushed. He had never seen such a gorgeous woman in his entire life. She threw him off guard. “Right… who’s your fiancé?” “Gu Mocheng!” “What, Colonel Gu?” “He’s the colonel already?” ‘Jian Jianan, look what you missed out on! You overlooked an absolutely outstanding person!’ “Alright, please wait a moment. I’ll call and ask…” The guard glanced at Jian Jianan with a little bit of doubt. He had never heard of Colonel Gu having a fiancé. Soon after, the guard walked towards Jian Jianan. “Hi, Colonel Gu is unable to meet you. He is preoccupied with his inspection of the new recruits.” He was sugarcoating it for her. “What fiancé? I have no idea who she is! Tell her to leave!” was what Gu Mocheng truly said on the phone. Jian Jianan knew he was lying to her, noticing the discomfort on his face. Her smile was radiant. “It’s okay. I’ll go in and meet him if he’s not free to do so. I can’t leave without seeing him after such a long journey, am I right? I missed him so much, I could barely sleep for the past few days…” “But…” “No worries, I won’t trouble you!” Jian Jianan reached for her phone and placed a call. Shortly after, the guard received a phone call shortly and cordially invited Jian Jianan in. It was Jian Jianan’s first time in the military camp. The soldiers were on the field, training. She marched a few steps and from afar, she saw Gu Mocheng. Even with just a glimpse at his portrait, she could recognize him instantly. He stood out in the platoon in his fitted camouflage uniform and military boots. She could not hear what he was saying to the soldiers but, from where she was standing, he looked brilliant, firm and masculine. He had a striking profile. He had a chiseled jawline and a particularly captivating pair of pitch-black eyes. Although he had a darker skin tone, it looked healthy and made him look even more manly than Xiao Yihan. Her first impression of him was that he was handsome, but this second one was even better! Having only seen the photograph, Jian Jianan did not expect Gu Mocheng to command her attention so much in reality. His features were definitely the type that both men and women would fall in love with. It was rare to see women in military camps - much less an elegant woman dressed up so glamorously. She could hear guys catcalling her wherever she went. She did not bother with it. She hiked up her skirt and ran towards Gu Mocheng. The man sensed something interrupting the training. Before he could turn to see, Jian Jianan rushed straight into his arms. “I finally get to see you, darling!” Without thinking, Gu Mocheng wrapped his arms around Jian Jianan. Her unique scent permeated the air, and the tender warmth he felt in his hands was startling. There was the blowing of whistles, followed by a rising roar. In quick reaction, Gu Mocheng pushed Jian Jianan away. “Who is this woman?”
