"All units! Hold position!"
Even the passionate Commander of the Hunters barked at his platoon of riders.
The reason for their hesitation was simple. Years ago, the Twilight Revenants' leader's betrayal caused a catastrophic mission failure, leaving all four major organizations with devastating losses.
The Hunters had suffered the worst. Their vice-commander had sacrificed himself, charging alone into an oncoming beast tide to cover the fighters that retreated. He had been consumed by the swarm, never to return.
Hence, none of them were eager to risk their lives for Owen.
The second reason was that the energy emanating from the rift leader was too overwhelming. Rather than rushing in to attack it, they wanted to see if Owen could weaken it or reveal more of its abilities before he inevitably fell.
This would help them reduce their casualties. To them, Owen was merely a tool. His life was nothing but a joke.
