After Yenna left, I answered Laurel, “I’m accompanying my friend to choose a dress for her engagement party. What about you?”
The two other girls looked to be the same age as Laurel. The three of them walked in, linking arms, so they were probably good friends.
“Our drama club has an upcoming show. I’m looking for a wedding dress to rent for my performance,” Laurel replied with a smile.
“Okay. Go ahead then!” I said in a gentle voice.
“Okay!” Laurel and her two friends went to pick out a wedding dress while I sat on the sofa, flipping through a bridal gown magazine. I was still paying attention to Laurel from the corner of my eye.
After a while, Laurel and her friends asked about the rental price of the dresses.
When they learned that it was $1,000 a day, the three of them looked at each other awkwardly.
Laurel asked embarrassedly, “Could you give us a discount, please? We need to rent it for two days, and we promise not to get it dirty or damaged!”
