Oliver asked, "What? They won't give you the admission ticket? On what grounds?"
Oliver's face flushed with anger the moment Josh explained the situation. He was ready to storm off and start yelling.
Even the distillery employees waiting in line for his sandwiches overheard the commotion and hurried over, eager to find out what was happening.
When they learned that Josh hadn't been issued his admission ticket due to skipping the preliminary test, they were just as shocked.
Some of them had bet that Josh wouldn't become the top student in the nation. But that was based on their understanding of how difficult the exams were, not because they genuinely wished for him to fail.
Whatever the final result, at least there needed to be a fair process. Now, neither the process nor the result seemed possible.
