He gently raised it, trying to prevent the creaky sounds but it creaked anyway, and Lydia was standing there, her eyes expanding with warmth and delight at seeing him.
"Damien," she said in a soft, relieved voice as she moved closer to him.
“You're here”
He gave her the flowers without saying anything. She accepted them, her fingertips slightly brushing his, and the tension between them eased.
From a look of amazement, Lydia's countenance changed to something deeper than words could have spoken.
“They're beautiful, thank you Damien” she said, inhaling their scents.
“I couldn't stop thinking about you” he began,
“About the man your mother is choking you to get married to”
“Edmund” she said,
“She's made her choice Damien, the Brannon lineage must continue, and I must take my place in our clan”
“It's always about the clan and never about what you want” he said,
