Chapter 10: The Search for Secrets
The first light of dawn filtered softly through the narrow window of my small room, casting a faint glow on my dull face. The previous night had been not so good, I was consumed with thoughts of the mysterious woman from the book. Determined to know more, I knew I had to act more carefully. My search had to be discreet, lest it attract unwanted attention from those who would rather keep the past buried.
After my morning duties, I decided to start my search in the library, a place that I consider my second home. The library was a grand room lined with shelves that stretched to the ceiling, filled with volumes that seemed to hold the weight of centuries. It was a place of knowledge, but also a place where secrets might be hidden.
As I entered, the familiar scent of old books and polished wood greeted me. Mr. Harper, the house manager, was dusting the shelves, his presence was not going to stop my search, but I wished he wasn't there at all.
