Chapter Sixty Family Emergency
Joyce and I sat down together for over two hours, waiting for any news. With our eyes dried off, we stopped crying long ago. And now, hope and prayer were all we could do. The reception had people coming and going, some receiving good and lousy news. But I felt that no news was better than bad news.
I looked down at Joyce bundled in her seat; I know that no matter what I said, my child would always blame herself for this accident today. I noticed the time and needed to make arrangements to stay there.
"Joyce, baby." I said, shaking her by her shoulders. Joyce blinked and turned her tired eyes to me.
"Mom?" She asked, eyes focused on me.
"I'm going to step out for a bit and call Evans. I don't want him to worry, I have to let him know where I am." I said. "Are you going to be okay by yourself for some minutes?"
"I'm not a kid mom, I'll be fine." Joyce said, shooing me away.
I conjured a smile and kissed her cheek before standing up. "I'll be right back."
