The nurse adjusted the IV drip and gave Naomi a few instructions. She nodded and agreed to everything.
Once the nurse left, Naomi moved to sit beside John, her eyes following the rhythm of the fluid dripping down the tube.
"Don't worry, Naomi. I'm fine," John said obediently, noticing how closely she was watching him.
She turned to look at him, her expression suddenly serious. "John, the next time you feel unwell, take your medicine immediately. Don't push through it. Don't ignore it.
"A lot of serious illnesses start small. By the time it gets bad, it's much harder on the body."
Some things in life could be taken lightly—but not health. Everyone got sick now and then, but that didn't mean she could bear to see her family suffer. She wanted them healthy. All of them.
John saw the concern in her eyes, heard the firmness in her voice. "I'm sorry, Naomi. I didn't know."
