Chapter 5
Henry sighed, "Dear, what I said yesterday, I know I just casually said it. But you don't have to be ashamed, do what need to do. Don't worsen your relationship.
Joanna's lips moved. She wanted to say something, when the phone on the desk rang suddenly.
She unplugged the charging cable and put the phone to her ear.
"Joanna, where are you?"
Jillian Pang's voice was unprecedentedly serious, and Joanna was stunned before speaking.
"At the company."
Jillian was silent for a while until she whispered, "I saw Yana Pei in the hospital."
Joanna's heart trembled, her fingers felt like electricity was running through them. She grasped the phone conditioned reflexively. There was a bone in her throat and for a long time, she wasn’t able to speak.
However, Jillian did not stop. She paused for a few seconds and continued on, "And Richie was with her."
Snapped--
The phone slipped from her hand and fell on the floor. Jillian had said something else loudly but Joanna couldn't hear it clearly.
The only thought in her heart was that, “it finally came”. But what she had feared the most was still to come...
"Dear, are you okay?"
Joanna's face was as pale as paper, and Henry couldn't help but feel a little worried.
Joanna shook her head, her voice trembling.
"Dad, I'll go out first."
After speaking, and disregarding Henry's reaction, she pushed the door and ran away.
————
"Sir, drive me to Nanshan Hospital."
Joanna's hands kept shaking and she couldn't hold the phone properly afterwards. She had prepared for this moment three years ago, but when the day finally came, her mind went blank.
Yana, Richie's true love.
Three years ago, she took advantage of the power of the Mo family to drive that poor woman out of the country. Since then, Richie had hated her to the bone. The sick marriage is Richie's revenge.
She was not afraid of his revenge. What she’s afraid is that one day, she will not even have the qualifications to be by his side.
She can endure all the women around him because she knows he doesn’t love them, but she can’t fight with Yana alone. That woman, even though disappearing for three years, has been living in his heart for three years. The marriage had finally overwhelmed her when she learned the news of Yana's return.
Boom—
The door of the orthopedic clinic bounced open. Jillian trembled with one hand, and the man beside her frowned slightly.
"Sorry, wait a moment for me."
She said apologetically, she took off her gloves and pulled in the person standing at the door, "What are you doing here?"
Joanna's hands were cold. She didn't even wear a coat when she came out. The sweater outlined her thin body, and there are still snowflakes on her hair that had yet to melt, just like a white plum tree in the cold wind, which is lovely.
She did not answer Jillian's words, but stubbornly asked, "Where is Richie?"
"Gone."
Jillian patted the snowflakes off her body and wrapped a scarf around her shoulders.
"Why didn't you stop him!"
Joanna was very emotional, "You’re my best friend, so you just watched my husband as he was cheating?"
Snapped--
Jillian gave her a slap, her chest rising and falling violently, and after a while, she said, "Have you calmed down?"
Joanna tilted her head, her hair covered her face. No emotions could be seen on her face, and a drop of water fell from her hair and hit the back of Jillian's hand.
"Joanna, I have never been optimistic about you and Richie. That man's eyes are blind. Isn't it clear that you have been with him for three years?"
Jillian's tone was irritable, and at this moment she did not care about the presence of outsiders in the consultation room.
"I won't help you in stopping him, so that you can see for yourself whether that man has you in his heart or not. You’re only twenty-five years old, do you really want to lock yourself in this marriage?"
Tears fell one by one as Joanna looked up at Jillian, her voice hoarse, "It's too late, I’m already locked up."
"Seriously, you—"
Jillian hated that she couldn’t convince this woman, and just when she wanted to give her a few words, she suddenly saw the bruise on her forehead, her face suddenly changed.
"Did he beat you?"
Joanna wiped away her tears and laughed at herself, "If he really did hit me, that means he still cares a little bit—"
After her sanity returned, Joanna caught a glimpse of the man on the consultation bed. She stopped talking, and said in a low voice, "You can work, I'm leaving now."
"Are you gonna go to Richie to question him?"
"No," Joanna paused, "Richie doesn't want me to know, then I won’t. I'll wait for him to come home."
As soon as Jillian looked at her back, it took a long time before she could regain her calm. She turned her head and saw the man on the seat. She was a little embarrassed. She smiled and said, "Mr. Li, I made you wait.
The man's expression was indifferent, as if he didn't mind what happened just now, he lowered his eyelashes slightly, his voice was cold, "Go ahead."
...
When she got out of the hospital, she saw a Bentley parked on the side of the road with an arm dangling from the window, it was right at that time someone talked.
The man curled his lips and walked away.
