CHAPTER 25
When I reached Kenzie's apartment and brought my car to a stop, I saw her silhouette sitting in the dark on the front porch of her apartment doorway. I cursed at myself for causing her discomfort. She seemed lost in her thoughts and oblivious of my presence. I walked toward her and when I got closer, she raised her gaze to see me, her face impassive and expressionless.
I reached her spot and sat on the single stair beside her.
"Hi."
"Hi." She replied and cleared her throat.
I stole a glance at her knee-length plain flared gown and her hair which she seemed to have curled in a soft wavy style. She was simply beautiful without having to make so much an attempt.
"Sorry, I'm late." I slapped myself inwardly. I should have said more but my head felt weirdly clogged up and I could not think of anything else.
"Yea." She did not say much and only stared at space.
We stayed in silence for a few seconds until she spoke again.
"What is your mom like?"
