CHAPTER SIXTY SIX – LOSS OF PASSION
The weeks flew by in a whirlwind of sessions, paperwork, and continued learning. Joan found herself busier than ever, but also more fulfilled than she had ever been.
One particularly hectic Thursday, Joan was so engrossed in her work that she lost track of time. It wasn't until her phone buzzed with a text that she realized how late it had gotten.
Vito: Where are you? Did you forget about our dinner reservation?
Joan's heart sank as she checked the time. 8:30 PM. She was supposed to meet Vito at the restaurant an hour ago.
"Oh no," she muttered, hastily gathering her things. She dialed Vito's number as she rushed out of the office.
"Vito, I'm so sorry," she said as soon as he picked up. "I got caught up with work and lost track of time. I'm on my way now."
Vito's voice was clipped. "Don't bother. I've already left the restaurant."
"Vito, please. I'll make it up to you. We can go somewhere else, or I can cook-"
"Just come home, Joan."
The line went dead. Joan stared at her phon
