CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT – COFFEE AND MAYHEM
As Joan made her way home that evening, she felt a mix of emotions. Embarrassment over her numerous mistakes, gratitude for Maria's understanding, and a small spark of determination. She may have fumbled today, but tomorrow was another chance to prove herself.
When she arrived at the penthouse, Vito was waiting with a bouquet of flowers. "To celebrate your first day," he said, pulling her into a hug.
Joan buried her face in his chest, inhaling the comforting scent of his cologne. "It was awful," she mumbled.
Vito stroked her hair soothingly. "Want to talk about it?"
Over dinner, Joan recounted the day's disasters. To her surprise, Vito laughed at some of her more ridiculous mistakes.
"I'm sorry," he said, seeing her expression. "I'm not laughing at you. It's just... it reminds me of my first day interning at my dad's company. I spilled coffee all over an important client and called my boss 'Mom' in front of the entire board."
Despite herself, Joan giggled. "You didn't."
