Alessandro's expression grew serious. "Joan, about the increased security measures –"
"I know, I know," Joan interrupted. "It's necessary, but it complicates things. How do I explain to my staff why we suddenly have armed guards patrolling the premises?"
Alessandro leaned forward, his dark eyes intense. "You tell them the truth – or at least, part of it. After what happened with Zoe, it's a logical precaution. No one will question it too deeply."
Joan nodded slowly. "You're right. I just... sometimes I wonder if I'm in over my head with all of this."
"You're doing fine, Joan," Alessandro said, his voice uncharacteristically gentle. "Better than fine. You're navigating a complex situation with grace and intelligence."
Joan felt a warmth spread through her chest at his words. "Thank you, Alessandro. That means a lot coming from you."
Their eyes met, and for a moment, the air between them seemed charged with unspoken tension. Joan cleared her throat, breaking the spell.
